Outdoor enclosure for pandas

Ähtäri Zoo welcomed its newest residents, the two Chinese giant pandas Lumi and Pyry. Destia Engineering was responsible for the finishing work of the outdoor enclosure for the Snowpanda House.
“The cracks in the rock wall surrounding the outdoor enclosure were filled with shocrete to prevent the pandas from climbing the wall and hurting themselves,” says Mika Räisänen, Supervisor at Destia Engineering.
The project was completed under the close supervision of Ähtäri Zoo’s intendant Mauno Seppäkoski.
“I’m very satisfied with Destia Engineering’s work. They stuck to the construction schedule very well, even though winter came too early to Ähtäri last year. Had the weather been more favorable, we would have had more shotcrete walls made,” says Seppäkoski.
